Media Bias? You Ain’t Seen Nuthin’ Yet…

On CL Politics today there was a discussion going on regarding media treatment of various425.palin.fey.082908 political figures at the hands of the likes of SNL, Bill Maher, etc... The usual discourse over bias taking place, who can dish it out and who can take it, citing SNL parodies in particular and Tina Fey's Emmy for doing Sarah Palin... I must say, I have no problems with comedians if they're FUNNY... I do think Tina Fey is pretty funny, but worthy of an Emmy??? I don't think so, but that's just me... I think the problem becomes when people are unable to differentiate between parody and reality... Too many times I've seen people cite Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert on political forums as if they're actually credible sources of information. These guys are entertainers, and pretty damn funny I might add... But the minute you start allowing them to shape your political opinions... Whew, you're in a world of hurt.

Biased or not, the media formally known as "mainstream" has become incompetent, if nothing else... This is why we have a couple of 20 year old kids exposing ACORN in their spare time instead of somebody like 60 Minutes... As for straight up bias, if you don't think it's there now, just wait... Obama is apparently open to the idea of a newspaper bailout: Obama open to newspaper bailout bill, and if he's able to pass such an atrocity, I would think we'd begin seeing even more of this kind of thing: On-the-air prez seems like endless 'infomercial'

Excerpt:

"In the New York Times alone, according to the Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, 405 stories on the Obama administration have appeared on the front page through mid-August of this year totaling 119,678 column inches. That's 9,973 column feet of Obama coverage on the Times front page alone."

That's almost two miles of Obama...

If that's not enough, allow me to call attention to something else the media formally know as "mainstream" missed: 'Artists' as Servants of Power

Excerpt:

"Andrew Breitbart's Big Hollywood is out today with new details on the National Endowment for the Arts scandal, including a full transcript and audio recording, as well as a CliffsNotes summary by John Nolte, of the notorious Aug. 10 conference call in which administration officials urged artists to help promote President Obama's legislative agenda."

Some people like to scoff at the idea of things like media bias, government influence on education, and other seemingly clandestine "conspiracy theories" they deem too fantastical... The bottom line is, you simply cannot underestimate the time being put in on figuring out how to control you. What do you think government "think tanks" do? Allow me to call attention to The International Color Consortium as an example of the degree to which things are being pre-considered for you. The ICC is literally the governing body over the use of color, and if you choose to become a member and pay dues, you can find out what the "in" colors will be years in advance. As a small time digital media artist, having such information isn't worth the money (to me anyway), yet if you are a designer of furniture, clothing, or a manufacturer of paint, this information is certainly valuable.

extraSo be advised, all of us... If people are taking the time to choose our color schemes for us in advance, imagine what else is being considered "on our behalf" that we haven't even thought of... There was a time when the media formally known as "mainstream" served as a watchdog who brought us such information. When was the last time they exposed ANYTHING that wasn't little more than reporting on something someone said in public? For cryin out loud, it was the frickin' ENQUIRER that busted Edwards out...
